MBA Course 2026: Admission, Eligibility, Fees, Syllabus, Scope & Career Opportunities
The Master of Business Administration (MBA) is a two-year postgraduate management degree that builds leadership, analytical and decision-making skills across finance, marketing, human resources, operations, entrepreneurship and business analytics. It is offered in full-time, part-time, executive, online and distance formats, so you can choose a route that fits your career stage and budget.
Duration is typically two years (four semesters). Eligibility is a bachelor's degree in any discipline from a recognised university with around 50% marks (relaxed to about 45% for reserved categories at many institutions). Campus programmes usually admit through entrance exams such as CAT, XAT, CMAT, MAT, NMAT and SNAP, followed by group discussion and personal interview. Online and distance MBAs commonly admit on graduation marks without an entrance exam. Fees range widely, from roughly ₹50,000 for some distance and online programmes to ₹25 lakh or more at top full-time business schools.
You need a three-year bachelor's degree (or equivalent) in any stream. Most institutions ask for a minimum of about 50% aggregate marks, and final-year students may apply provisionally. Work experience is optional for regular MBAs but preferred, and sometimes mandatory, for executive programmes.
For campus programmes, register for an exam such as CAT, XAT, CMAT, MAT, NMAT or SNAP, apply to institutes, clear the cut-off and complete the group discussion and interview rounds. For online and distance programmes, apply directly to the university, upload documents and pay the admission fee once eligibility is verified. Read our guides to CAT vs GMAT vs CMAT and UGC-entitled online MBA colleges for detail.
The first year covers core subjects such as principles of management, business economics, financial accounting, organisational behaviour, marketing, finance, HR and operations. The second year focuses on strategy, analytics, entrepreneurship, electives, an internship and a capstone project or dissertation. Popular specializations include MBA Finance, MBA Marketing, human resources, operations, business analytics, IT management and international business. See Best Online MBA Programs in India 2026 for options by format.
MBA graduates work as business managers, management consultants, marketing and finance managers, HR leaders, operations managers, analysts and entrepreneurs. Salaries vary widely by institute, specialization, city and prior experience, with campus graduates from top institutes at the upper end and early-career online graduates typically earning less. Treat any published figure as indicative rather than guaranteed.
Choose a full-time MBA if you want campus recruitment and can afford the time and cost. Choose an online or distance MBA if you want to keep working, need a lower-cost route or cannot take a career break. Compare formats in our guide to online MBA vs distance MBA.
