The short answer

None of the universities we checked publishes a separate SGPA formula, so convert one semester’s SGPA with the rule your university uses for grade points. Under a ×10 rule (VTU, Anna University, AKTU), 8.2 SGPA is 82%; under JNTUH’s (SGPA − 0.5) × 10 it is 77%. Pick your university below.

How to use it

  1. 1

Enter the SGPA for one semester.

  2. 2

It starts on the ×10 rule most universities use. If yours publishes its own formula, pick it from the list.

  3. 3

Read the semester percentage and the formula used.

Official SGPA to percentage rules

There is no single national formula. UGC’s credit-system guidelines leave grading decisions to each university, so the right conversion is the one your own board or university publishes. We read every rule below in the issuing body’s own regulation or circular. None of them publishes a separate SGPA formula, so the calculator applies the grade-point rule to a single semester.

Questions students ask

What is the difference between SGPA and CGPA?

SGPA is your grade point average for one semester. CGPA is the credit-weighted average across all semesters so far. Each has a percentage equivalent under your university’s rule.

How do I convert SGPA to percentage?

Apply your university’s grade-point conversion rule to that semester’s SGPA; universities publish one rule for grade points, not a separate SGPA formula. If yours publishes none, multiplying by 10 is a common approximation, but only your university’s conversion is official.

Can I add SGPAs to get CGPA?

Not by simple adding. CGPA is the credit-weighted average of all SGPAs. Use the CGPA calculator to combine semesters correctly.
