The short answer

Each IIM publishes minimum CAT percentiles, overall and for each section, in its admission policy. For CAT 2026, IIM Ahmedabad asks General candidates for 95 overall and 85 in every section; IIM Calcutta asks for 85 overall with 80, 80 and 75. Meeting a minimum makes you eligible for the shortlist. Actual interview calls usually need more.

How the check works

Each IIM’s admission policy sets minimum CAT percentiles for each category, usually overall and for VARC, DILR and QA. You meet an IIM’s minimums when every published figure for your category is at or below your percentile. Where a policy sets no sectional minimum, only the overall figure counts, and where it sets none for your category, the IIM is listed without a verdict. IIM Shillong sets sectional minimums only, so the checker shows whether you meet them but does not count it as cleared: it ranks candidates on a composite that is 65% overall percentile.

Each row names its policy cycle. IIM Ahmedabad and IIM Calcutta have published minimums for CAT 2026; the others still show their CAT 2025 policies, which are the best guide until new ones appear. A minimum makes you eligible for the shortlist; the shortlist itself ranks a composite of CAT, academics, work experience and diversity, so calls usually go well above it.

Frequently asked questions

What is the CAT cut-off for IIM Ahmedabad?

IIM Ahmedabad’s admission policy for 2027-29 (CAT 2026) sets 95 overall and 85 in each section for General and EWS candidates, 90 and 80 for NC-OBC, 85 and 75 for SC, and 75 and 65 for ST. It then shortlists on a composite of CAT and your academic record, so the actual call cut-off is higher.

Is the IIM minimum percentile the same as the cut-off for an interview call?

No. The published minimum only makes you eligible to be considered. Each IIM then ranks eligible candidates on its own composite score, which adds Class 10, 12 and degree marks, work experience and diversity, so interview calls usually go to scores well above the minimum.

Which IIM has the highest CAT cut-off?

Among published minimums for General candidates, IIM Rohtak’s is the highest at 97 overall in its 2026-28 policy, with no sectional minimums. IIM Ranchi and IIM Tiruchirappalli published indicative interview cut-offs of about 95.25, and IIM Ahmedabad and IIM Nagpur set 95.

Do IIMs check anything besides CAT percentile?

Yes. Most weigh Class 10, Class 12 and graduation marks, work experience and gender or academic diversity. Some set academic minimums too: IIM Kozhikode needs 60% in Class 10 and 12 and in your degree for General candidates, and many IIMs need a positive score in every CAT section.

Are these the CAT 2026 cut-offs?

For IIM Ahmedabad and IIM Calcutta, yes: both have published their 2027-29 policies. The other IIMs still show their 2026-28 policies, based on CAT 2025, and each row says which cycle it comes from. We update the checker as new policies appear.
