The short answer
To convert percentage to CGPA, reverse your board or university’s rule. Under CBSE’s indicative ×9.5 rule, divide by 9.5, so 76% is 8.0 CGPA. Under a ×10 rule (VTU, Anna University, AKTU), divide by 10. Under JNTUH’s rule, divide by 10 and add 0.5. Pick yours below and the calculator reverses it exactly.
How to use it

Official CGPA to percentage rules
There is no single national formula. UGC’s credit-system guidelines leave grading decisions to each university, so the right conversion is the one your own board or university publishes. We read every rule below in the issuing body’s own regulation or circular.

Checked October 2026. Universities revise ordinances; confirm with your examination section before you submit a form.
Before you rely on a figure
CBSE
Since its notice of 30 November 2023, CBSE says it does not calculate or declare percentages for current results; the admitting institution or employer does.
Mumbai University
From 1 January 2026 Mumbai University no longer uses a conversion formula: colleges calculate the actual percentage from marks, on request.
UGC
UGC's CBCS guidelines give no CGPA-to-percentage formula and leave pass and qualifying CGPA to each university.
SPPU (Pune)
Circular 332/2020 uses a different equation for each final grade (for an A grade, 10 × CGPA − 7.5), and a 2022 exam-section note says CGPA × 8.9. The two disagree, so ask SPPU's exam section for your figure.
WES
WES evaluates course by course and reports a 4.0-scale GPA. It publishes no CGPA-to-percentage formula.
Questions students ask
How do I convert percentage to CGPA?
Reverse the rule your board or university uses. Under CBSE’s ×9.5 rule, 85.5% is 9.0 CGPA. Under a ×10 rule, divide by 10. Under JNTUH’s (CGPA − 0.5) × 10, divide by 10 and add 0.5.
What is 75% in CGPA?
Under CBSE’s ×9.5 rule, 75% is about 7.89 CGPA. Under a ×10 rule it is 7.5, and under JNTUH’s rule it is 8.0. The calculator shows the figure for whichever rule you pick.
Can I write a converted CGPA on a job or college application?
Write what your marksheet shows and convert only if the form asks for it. If it asks for a converted figure, use your own university’s rule, since that is the one it will verify.
