The short answer

SGPA is the credit-weighted average of grade points in one semester: multiply each subject’s grade point by its credits, add them up, and divide by the semester’s total credits. On the UGC 10-point scale, O is 10, A+ is 9, A is 8, B+ is 7, B is 6, C is 5, P is 4 and F is 0.

How to use it

  1. 1

Add each subject in the semester with its credits.

  2. 2

Pick the grade you got in each subject.

  3. 3

Questions students ask

How is SGPA calculated?

SGPA = Σ(credits × grade point) ÷ Σ(credits) for the subjects in one semester. A 4-credit subject affects it twice as much as a 2-credit one.

Does a failed subject count in SGPA?

Under most UGC CBCS schemes an F carries 0 grade points and its credits still count, which pulls the SGPA down until you clear the subject. Check your university’s ordinance for its exact rule.

Is my university’s grade table the same as UGC’s?

Most follow the UGC CBCS letter grades shown here, but some use different letters or points. If yours differs, enter the grade points from your own grade card.
