The same Rs 66,000 applies to the general MBA, the specialisation MBAs in HR, Finance, Operations and Marketing, the MBA in Banking and Finance, and the sector MBAs in Construction Management, Logistics and Supply Chain, and Agribusiness. The MBA in Health Care and Hospital Management costs a little more: Rs 16,000 for each of the first two semesters, Rs 20,000 for the third and Rs 18,000 for the fourth. The full cost of an IGNOU MBA
Most fee guides stop at Rs 66,000. IGNOU's prospectus lists a few more charges:
Registration fee: Rs 300, non-refundable, paid at admission
University development fee: Rs 400, paid at admission
Exam fee: Rs 200 per theory course
Project evaluation fee: Rs 500
By our arithmetic, tuition plus the one-time fees comes to Rs 66,700. Exam fees for around 27 theory courses add about Rs 5,400 and the project fee Rs 500, so a student who clears every exam at the first attempt pays about Rs 72,600 in total. Two ways to pay less: IGNOU gives a 15% discount on the programme fee if you choose soft-copy study material instead of printed books, which would bring tuition to Rs 56,100, and SC/ST learners can have the programme fee waived under IGNOU's policy for that admission cycle, subject to an income certificate. Registration, development and exam fees still apply in both cases.
IGNOU MBA online: same fee, different mode
IGNOU also runs an online MBA (MBAOL) on its learning management platform, which started in January 2022. Its fee is the same: Rs 16,000 for semesters one, two and four and Rs 18,000 for semester three. The online version is taught in English only, while the distance MBA is available in English and Hindi. Choose the online mode if you prefer structured digital learning; choose the distance mode if you want printed material or Hindi. IGNOU MBA eligibility and admission
Eligibility: a bachelor's degree of at least three years with 50% marks, or 45% for reserved categories. No work experience is required.
No entrance test: IGNOU's handbook says you can enrol in any of its MBA programmes without appearing for an entrance test.
Duration: minimum two years, maximum four years.
Admission cycles: January and July, through IGNOU's admission portal for distance programmes and a separate portal for online programmes.
Exit option: you can leave after the first two semesters (56 credits) with a Post Graduate Diploma in Management.
Admission deadlines are often extended, so check the current notification on IGNOU's website before you plan around a date. One more point to decide early: if you enrol in a specialisation MBA, IGNOU does not allow you to change the specialisation later. Is the IGNOU MBA valid and recognised?
Yes. IGNOU's prospectus describes its MBA as an AICTE-recognised postgraduate degree, and states the online MBA is AICTE-recognised too. IGNOU is exempted by UGC from its distance and online regulations and says its programmes are at par with those approved by the UGC Distance Education Bureau.
