You can check your IGNOU assignment status on IGNOU's assignment status page at isms.ignou.ac.in. Enter your enrolment number (up to 10 digits), pick your programme code and submit. The page shows the assignment, project and practical marks your study centre or regional centre has sent to IGNOU headquarters. If a mark is not there yet, it usually has not been transmitted, not lost.
How to check IGNOU assignment status online
The page IGNOU uses is titled "Assignment/Project/Practical Awards/Marks Transmission Status". It needs no password. Keep your ID card or fee receipt open so you copy the numbers exactly.
Open the IGNOU assignment status page on isms.ignou.ac.in.
Type your enrolment number. The field takes a maximum of 10 digits, so check you have not dropped or added one.
Select your programme code from the list, for example BCA, BCOMG or MBA. The list is long and sorted alphabetically.
Submit. The result lists the courses for which your marks have been received at headquarters.
Open IGNOU pages from the official site, ignou.ac.in, or from a link you trust, rather than from an ad or a random search result. Several unofficial sites copy the look of IGNOU portals.
Why your assignment marks are not showing yet
IGNOU's status page carries one line that explains most of the worry: the status is reflected only when marks or grades are transmitted by study centres or regional centres after the evaluation process. So your marks pass through three steps before you can see them. Your assignment is evaluated at or through your study centre, the centre prepares an award list, and that list reaches the Student Evaluation Division at headquarters.
| What you see | What it usually means | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| No record for a course you submitted recently | The study centre has not finished evaluation or has not sent the award list yet | Wait. Check again every couple of weeks, and keep your submission receipt |
| No record for a course you submitted long ago | The award list may not have reached headquarters | Ask your study centre coordinator to forward the award list to the Student Evaluation Division |
| Marks shown are lower than on your evaluated sheet | A data entry or transmission error | Show the evaluated sheet to your study centre and ask them to send the correct award list |
| Marks below your programme's pass mark | You have not qualified in that assignment | Submit the fresh assignment for the current session before its last date |
| Marks shown here but missing on the grade card | The grade card is updated separately | Give it time, then raise it through iGRAM if it does not move |
IGNOU assignment submission last date
IGNOU sets a separate assignment deadline for each term-end exam. For the December 2026 TEE, the Student Evaluation Division's notice dated 1 October 2026 extended the last date for submitting assignments, in hard copy and soft copy, to 31 October 2026. It covers ODL and online programmes, as well as GOAL and EVBB learners.
| Item | Date | Source |
|---|---|---|
| Assignment submission (hard and soft copy) | Up to 31 October 2026 | SED Assignment Section notice, 1 October 2026 |
| Exam form without late fee | Up to 7 October 2026 | SED Exam-II notice, 30 September 2026 |
| Exam form with Rs 1,100 late fee | 8 to 15 October 2026 | SED Exam-II notice, 30 September 2026 |
| Theory exams | 25 November 2026 to 14 January 2027 | Revised tentative date sheet, 30 October 2026 |
The deadline matters beyond the marks themselves. IGNOU's December 2026 date sheet says permission to write the exam is provisional, and one of its conditions is that the required number of assignments has been submitted by the due date where applicable. If a course's assignment is missing, the result of that course can be held back even if you write the exam. Our IGNOU hall ticket guide lists all the conditions.
IGNOU assignment marks not updated: how to get them fixed
IGNOU's programme guides give the same route every time. If the score on your evaluated assignment is not reflected, or not entered at all, contact the coordinator of your study centre and ask them to forward the correct award list to the Student Evaluation Division. Do it with paper in hand.
Keep copies. Hold on to your submitted assignment, the evaluated sheet and the submission receipt. The B.Com (Honours) programme guide warns these may be asked for.
Quote the details. Give your enrolment number, programme code, course code and the session you submitted for.
Escalate if nothing moves. If the study centre route does not work, file a grievance on iGRAM, IGNOU's grievance portal, where you can track the reply. IGNOU's Common Prospectus lists non-updating of marks in the grade card as a Student Evaluation Division matter.
One rule surprises people. Assignments are not re-evaluated, except for factual errors by the evaluator. The term-end re-evaluation you may have heard about applies to theory exam papers, not to assignments, projects or practicals.
How assignment marks count in your result
In most IGNOU programmes the assignment is the continuous evaluation part of a course and the TEE is the other part. The 2025 B.Com (Honours) programme guide gives assignments 30 percent weightage and the TEE 70 percent, and the BLIS guide uses the same split. You have to clear each part on its own, so a strong assignment cannot rescue a failed exam, or the other way round.
| Programme guide | Assignment rule |
|---|---|
| B.Com (Honours), 2025 | At least 35 percent in assignments and 35 percent in the TEE of each course |
| Bachelor of Library and Information Science (BLIS) | At least 40 percent in continuous evaluation and 40 percent in the TEE, separately |
If you did not pass an assignment, you submit the fresh assignment issued for the current session, not the old one. Once you have passed an assignment, you cannot resubmit it to improve the grade.
Assignment status, grade card and term-end result: which to check
IGNOU keeps three separate records, and each answers a different question. Check them in this order when something looks wrong.
| Page | Answers the question | Link |
|---|---|---|
| Assignment status | Has my study centre sent my assignment, project or practical marks? | isms.ignou.ac.in |
| Term-end result | What did I score in this June or December exam? | termendresult.ignou.ac.in |
| Grade card | Which courses in my programme are complete? | gradecard.ignou.ac.in |
A course shows as complete on the grade card only when both the assignment and the TEE marks are in and cleared. Our IGNOU grade card guide explains how to read each column and what every grade means.
Before your next exam
If your assignment status is clean and your exam form went through, the next things to watch are the hall ticket and the date sheet. If you missed the December 2026 form, the IGNOU exam form guide explains what to do next. Keep your registration valid too, since you can write a course only while it is current; the IGNOU re-registration guide covers the dates and fee. For programme options and fees, see the IGNOU institute page.
Frequently asked questions
How can I check my IGNOU assignment status?
Open IGNOU's assignment status page on isms.ignou.ac.in, enter your enrolment number and select your programme code. It shows the assignment, project and practical marks that have reached headquarters.
Why is my IGNOU assignment status not updated?
IGNOU's page says the status appears only after study centres or regional centres transmit the marks following evaluation. Recent submissions take time. If an old submission still shows nothing, ask your study centre coordinator to forward the award list.
What was the last date for IGNOU assignment submission for December 2026?
31 October 2026, for hard and soft copies, for ODL and online programmes, under IGNOU's notice dated 1 October 2026.
Can IGNOU assignments be re-evaluated?
No, except for factual errors by the evaluator. Re-evaluation applies to term-end theory papers, not assignments, projects or practicals.
What if I failed an IGNOU assignment?
Submit the fresh assignment issued for the current session before its last date. You cannot resubmit an assignment you have already passed to improve the grade.
Do I need assignments submitted to write the term-end exam?
Yes, where applicable. IGNOU's December 2026 date sheet lists submission of the required assignments by the due date as a condition for appearing, and results can be withheld if it is not met.
