The IGNOU July 2026 admission last date is 13 October 2026 for both ODL and Online programmes, except certificate and semester-based programmes. You need a valid APAAR ID before you start the form, so create it first if you have not. Dates can move, so check the portal before you pay. Last updated: 5 October 2026.
What IGNOU has officially announced
Both of IGNOU's admission portals show the same cut-off. The ODL portal for the July 2026 cycle and the separate portal for Online programmes each list 13 October 2026 as the last date for submitting applications, with certificate and semester-based programmes excluded from that date. Both also say applicants must provide a valid APAAR ID. A few fixed-intake programmes, such as some early childhood special education certificates, are admitted on a third portal.
If you are applying for a degree, that gives you eight days from today. Do not leave it to the last evening: the portal needs uploads, OTP checks and a payment, and each can fail the first time.
Get your APAAR ID sorted first
The APAAR ID is the step most likely to hold people up, because it is created outside IGNOU's form. IGNOU's portal links to its own help page for students who face problems creating one. Our ABC ID guide explains the related academic credit account and the DigiLocker steps.
Documents to keep ready for the IGNOU admission form
The ODL portal lists the following, all scanned from originals:
A clear colour passport-size photograph on a white background, under 100 KB, in JPEG format.
Your signature as a soft copy, under 100 KB, in JPEG format.
Your qualification certificate or marksheet, under 200 KB, in JPEG or PDF.
An experience certificate, if you have one, under 200 KB.
A category certificate if you apply under SC, ST or OBC, under 200 KB.
Fees can be paid by credit card, debit card, net banking or UPI. The photograph and signature become part of your official record once admission is confirmed and cannot be changed afterwards, so use a proper photo, not a casual selfie.
ODL or Online: choose before you register
IGNOU runs two routes, and the choice matters more than the deadline. The Online portal carries a plain warning: enrol only if you have a computer or laptop, internet access and are comfortable learning online, because printed study material is not provided in Online programmes. In the July 2026 prospectus, the online list includes BCA, B.Com, MCA, MBA and M.Com, among others.
If you prefer printed study material and a self-paced routine, ODL is the route built for that. If you are comfortable studying entirely on a screen, the Online route fits. Check the programme fee for your course in the prospectus before you decide. Our post on IGNOU versus an online university walks through the wider decision, and distance education versus online education explains why the two modes are not the same thing.
Refund rules to know before you pay
The registration fee is non-refundable. If you cancel before admission is confirmed, the programme fee is refunded. After confirmation, IGNOU deducts 15 percent of the programme fee, capped at Rs 2,000. No refund is admissible after 60 days from the closing date of admissions. Cancellation is done from your applicant login and cannot be undone, so decide on the programme first.
If you miss 13 October
Do not assume an extension. Treat 13 October as final and keep a backup plan: IGNOU's next cycle is a separate admission window, and other universities admit on different calendars. If you want to compare options this week, look at the online BCA, online MCA and online MBA pages, and read how DU SOL compares with IGNOU. Before paying any private university, run the UGC-DEB approval check.
Apply only through the official portals: IGNOU ODL admission and IGNOU Online admission. Confirm the deadline for your own programme there before you start.
