Overview
B Com Hons is a three or four-year undergraduate commerce degree with deeper accounting, tax and finance papers than a general B.Com. This page covers eligibility, CUET subject rules, duration, fees at named universities, admission and careers.
B Com Hons, or Bachelor of Commerce (Honours), is an undergraduate degree in commerce that goes deeper into accounting, finance, economics, tax and law than a general B.Com. You join after Class 12, and at most universities you study it for three or four years. The honours tag usually means more core commerce papers, often stricter subject rules for entry and, under the new credit framework, an optional fourth year.
This page covers the decisions: eligibility, admission, duration, fees and careers. For the semester-wise paper list and the subject-by-subject comparison with B.Com, read our B.Com Honours subjects guide.
You need Class 12 from a recognised board, but the subject and marks rules vary. Examples from official 2026-27 documents:
If you want a central university seat, plan your CUET subjects in Class 12 itself, because Delhi University ties the B.Com (Hons) seat to the subjects you take in the test. Private and online universities mostly admit on Class 12 marks or their own test.
Both exist, and the answer depends on the university. Under the UGC Curriculum and Credit Framework for Undergraduate Programmes, a three-year degree needs 120 credits and a four-year honours degree needs 160 credits.
So read the award rules in each prospectus: at some universities the three-year exit carries the honours title, and at others you only get it after year four. On modes, you can study on campus, through distance learning (Delhi University's School of Open Learning runs B.Com (Hons) in ODL mode) or online. The UGC-DEB list for 2026-27 shows many universities entitled to run B.Com (Hons) online. Our online BCom Hons page covers that route. Under Regulation 22 of the UGC (Open and Distance Learning Programmes and Online Programmes) Regulations, 2020, these degrees are equivalent to campus degrees when the institution is recognised, so confirm your programme on the UGC-DEB website before you pay.
Public universities and Delhi University colleges cost a fraction of private and online programmes. The figures below come from each institution's own fee documents.
| University or college | Mode | Published fee |
|---|---|---|
| Jamia Millia Islamia, New Delhi | Regular (8 semesters) | ₹10,175 per year; ₹38,375 per year for self-financed seats (2026-27) |
| University of Delhi, School of Open Learning | Distance (ODL) | ₹12,570 for the first year (Category A), including the ₹1,820 examination fee (2026-27) |
| Hansraj College, University of Delhi | Regular | ₹33,035 for the first year, economics and commerce courses (2026-27) |
| Amity University Online | Online (3 years) | ₹29,200 per semester, or ₹1,54,000 if paid in one go against a listed fee of ₹1,75,000 |
| Christ University, Bengaluru (B.Com Finance and Accountancy, Honours track) | Regular | ₹1,65,000 per year for Karnataka students, ₹1,85,000 for other states, plus ₹8,000 registration |
Add up the full cost for every year, including exam fees, hostel and any one-time charges. Universities revise fees each session, so confirm the current figure in writing before you pay.
Expect core subjects such as financial and corporate accounting, cost and management accounting, business and company law, income tax and GST, auditing, financial management, business statistics and economics, with electives and a project in the later years. Subject lists and their order change from one university to the next. Our B Com Honours subjects guide walks through the Delhi University papers semester by semester, so we do not repeat them here.
Common starting roles include:
Many students pair the degree with a professional qualification or certification. ICAI rules let commerce graduates with at least 55% register directly for the CA Intermediate course, and you must complete an eight-month study period before your first Intermediate exam (see the ICAI FAQ). CMA, CS and ACCA are other options, and our CMA course guide explains how CMA India compares with US CMA. For higher studies such as an M.Com or MBA, and other next steps, read what to do after BCom.
We do not quote a single BCom Honours salary figure, because starting pay depends on the employer, the city, your skills and any professional qualification you hold. Ask each college for its latest placement report with the number of students placed and the median offer.
It suits you if you are comfortable with numbers, enjoy accounting and tax, and want a stronger base for CA, CMA, an MBA in finance or a finance job. If you are aiming at Delhi University and already study Mathematics or Accountancy, you can compete for both B.Com (Hons) and B.Com seats.
Look at a general B.Com if you want a lighter course load, did not take Mathematics or Accountancy for CUET, or plan to spend more time on a professional course alongside college. If business management interests you more than accounts, a BBA may fit better.
A CareerBhavan counsellor can help you shortlist universities and plan the CA or CMA route alongside your degree.

FAQs
Quick answers to common questions.
B Com Hons means Bachelor of Commerce (Honours). It is an undergraduate commerce degree that goes deeper into accounting, finance, taxation, law and economics than a general B.Com, usually with more core commerce papers and stricter subject rules for entry at universities such as Delhi University.
B Com Honours scope includes accounting, banking, taxation, audit, financial analysis and corporate support roles. Many graduates also pursue CA, CMA, CS, CFA or an MBA for further growth.
Yes. Under ICAI rules, commerce graduates with at least 55% can register directly for the CA Intermediate course, and must complete an eight-month study period before the exam. Many students also use the degree as a base for CMA, CS, CFA or an MBA. Each professional course has its own eligibility and exam rules.
You need Class 12 from a recognised board, and each university sets its own rules. Delhi University admits through CUET (UG) and requires a combination with Mathematics or Applied Mathematics, or Accountancy or Book Keeping. Jamia Millia Islamia asks for 50% in the best five papers plus its entrance test, and Amity University Online asks for 55%.
It depends on the university. The UGC framework sets 120 credits for a three-year degree and 160 credits for a four-year honours degree. Delhi University awards an honours degree on exit after three years with 132 credits, or after four years with 176 credits. Jamia Millia Islamia and Christ University list four-year programmes, while Amity University Online runs a three-year one.
Common subjects include financial and corporate accounting, cost accounting, business law, economics, taxation, auditing and financial management. Exact papers differ by university.
There is no single figure. Starting pay depends on the employer, the city, the role and your skills, and it usually rises faster once you add a professional qualification such as CA, CMA or CS, or an MBA. Ask each college for its latest placement report showing the median offer and the number of students placed, not only the highest package.
Yes. Delhi University's School of Open Learning runs B.Com (Hons) in distance mode, and the UGC-DEB list for 2026-27 shows many universities entitled to offer it online. Before you enrol, confirm the exact programme and session on the UGC-DEB website and check the exam format and syllabus.
Ask for full programme dues, exam charges and refund rules rather than relying on rough estimates. Read the current prospectus and written fee schedule for your intended programme and admission session.
General B.Com covers commerce broadly. B Com Honours studies core areas in greater depth with more analytical papers and projects. Pick Honours for specialised finance or accounting goals.
It can be. Under Delhi University's undergraduate curriculum framework, you can leave after three years with 132 credits and an honours degree in the discipline, or stay for a fourth year and finish a four-year honours degree with 176 credits. The fourth year is optional, so you choose whether to continue.
Not automatically. B.Com Honours suits you if you want deeper accounting, tax and finance study, or plan CA, CMA or a finance career. A general B.Com is lighter and leaves more time for a professional course alongside college. At Delhi University, B.Com (Hons) also needs Mathematics or Accountancy in your CUET combination, while B.Com does not.
Both work. ICAI lets commerce graduates with at least 55% register directly for CA Intermediate, whichever B.Com they hold. Honours covers accounting, tax and audit in more depth, which helps with CA papers, but it is also more demanding. If you plan to write CA exams during college, compare the timetable and workload before choosing.
At some universities, yes. Delhi University accepts either Mathematics or Applied Mathematics, or Accountancy or Book Keeping, in your CUET combination for B.Com (Hons), so Accountancy can replace Maths. Jamia Millia Islamia asks for 50% in the best five Class 12 papers. Check each university's subject rule before you apply.
