Overview
The BBA course is a three-year undergraduate degree in business management that you can join after Class 12 from any stream. This page covers eligibility, study modes, fees at named universities and careers.
The BBA course (Bachelor of Business Administration) is an undergraduate management degree you can join after Class 12 from any stream. It teaches how a business runs: accounting, marketing, finance, people management, operations and basic strategy. Most universities run it as a three-year, six-semester programme, and many now offer a fourth honours year as well.
A BBA suits you if you want a first job in business or plan an MBA later. It is broader than a B.Com, which goes deeper into accounting and tax, and less technical than a BCA. If you only need the meaning of the degree and its semester-wise papers, our BBA full form and subjects guide covers that in detail. This page focuses on the decisions: eligibility, duration, mode, fees and careers.
The eligibility criteria are simple. Most universities ask for Class 12 (10+2) from a recognised board in any stream. Commerce students often find the first year easier, but science and arts students are admitted on the same terms. Many private and online universities set a minimum of 50% in Class 12. NMIMS CDOE, for example, asks for 50% (45% for SC, ST, OBC and PwD candidates) for its online BBA, while IGNOU only asks that you have passed 10+2.
Admission routes differ by university:
Keep your Class 10 and 12 mark sheets, ID proof and photographs ready before the application window opens.
Under the UGC Curriculum and Credit Framework for Undergraduate Programmes, a three-year degree needs 120 credits and a four-year honours degree needs 160 credits. That is why you now see both "BBA" and "BBA (Honours)" listings. The three-year degree is enough for jobs and for an MBA. The honours year helps if you want research, a PhD route or a deeper specialisation. See our BBA Honours page for that track.
You can study the degree in three modes:
Under Regulation 22 of the UGC (Open and Distance Learning Programmes and Online Programmes) Regulations, 2020, degrees earned online or through distance learning from a UGC-recognised institution are treated as equivalent to campus degrees. Before you pay, check that the university and the specific programme appear on the UGC-DEB website for your admission session.
BBA fees vary more than most students expect. A distance programme can cost a few thousand rupees a year, while a private campus programme can cost several lakh. The table shows examples taken from each university's official website.
| University | Mode | Published BBA fee |
|---|---|---|
| IGNOU (Indira Gandhi National Open University) | Distance (ODL) | ₹10,500 per year, plus registration and development fees |
| NMIMS CDOE (NMIMS Online) | Online | ₹25,000 per semester (₹1,50,000 for six semesters) or ₹47,000 per year on the annual plan, plus a ₹1,200 admission processing fee |
| Amity University Online | Online | ₹33,200 per semester; listed programme fee ₹1,99,000, or ₹1,75,120 if paid in one go |
| Jamia Hamdard, New Delhi | Regular (campus) | ₹75,000 tuition per semester; ₹1,00,250 payable at admission for 2026-27, including one-time charges and a refundable library deposit |
When you compare BBA fees, add up the full programme cost, not the first instalment. Ask about exam fees (NMIMS CDOE charges ₹800 per subject per attempt), project fees, hostel, laptop and any specialisation surcharge. NMIMS CDOE's BBA with business analytics electives costs ₹30,000 per semester instead of ₹25,000, for example. Confirm the current fee in writing before you pay, because universities revise fees each session.
Government colleges and public universities usually cost far less than private ones. Most of what you pay at a public college is not tuition. It is facility, welfare and university charges.
Take Shaheed Sukhdev College of Business Studies, a University of Delhi college that runs a BBA in Financial Investment Analysis (BBA FIA). Its tuition fee is just ₹180 a year. The full first-year fee for 2026-27 is ₹29,295 once the other charges are added.
| Year | Tuition fee | Total fee for the year |
|---|---|---|
| Year 1 | ₹180 | ₹29,295 |
| Year 2 | ₹180 | ₹25,190 |
| Year 3 | ₹180 | ₹24,590 |
The catch is competition. Seats there are filled on CUET (UG) scores, in the subject combination the University of Delhi sets in its admission bulletin. Private universities set their own fees, often charge tuition by the semester and may admit through their own test or on Class 12 marks. So compare tuition fees and the total fee side by side, and check the seat route before you build your list.
The first year builds the base: principles of management, business economics, financial accounting, business communication and business mathematics or statistics. The second year adds marketing, organisational behaviour, human resource management, financial management, cost accounting and business law. The final year moves to strategy, international business, research methods, electives and a project or internship.
Most universities let you pick a specialisation in the second or third year. Common choices are marketing, finance, human resources, business analytics, international business, logistics and entrepreneurship. The semester-wise syllabus differs by university, so download the official syllabus of every college on your shortlist. For a paper-by-paper list, read the BBA subjects guide linked at the top of this page.
A BBA prepares you for entry-level roles in almost any industry. Graduates commonly start as:
Starting pay depends on the city, the employer and what you did during the degree, so treat any single salary figure with caution. Internships, a strong final project and skills such as Excel, presentation and basic data analysis matter more than the degree name in your first interview. Many graduates work for a few years and then take an MBA to move into managerial roles. Our BBA salary guide explains what official data shows about pay.
The degree suits you if you enjoy working with people, like solving practical business problems and want flexibility about your career direction. It is also a sensible choice if you plan to join a family business or start your own.
Look elsewhere if your goal is narrow and fixed. If you want to become a chartered accountant or work in tax and audit, a B.Com fits better (see our BBA vs B.Com comparison). If you want software or IT roles, a BCA is more direct (our BBA vs BCA guide compares them). If you want corporate law, consider the integrated BBA LLB.
If you are comparing online and distance options, start with the official pages of universities such as NMIMS Online and IGNOU, and talk to a CareerBhavan counsellor if you want help narrowing the list.

Quick answers to common questions.
BBA stands for Bachelor of Business Administration. It is a three-year undergraduate management degree that covers marketing, finance, human resources, operations and related business subjects after Class 12.
A BBA course is a three-year UG programme in business administration. It builds managerial skills for entry-level corporate roles and is also a common pathway to an MBA or other postgraduate management study.
Students who have completed 10+2 from a recognised board in any stream can usually apply. Some colleges set a minimum percentage and may use merit lists or entrance tests such as CUET, NPAT or SET.
BBA course fees depend on the university and the mode. As of October 2026, IGNOU's distance BBA costs ₹10,500 a year, while Jamia Hamdard charges ₹75,000 a semester in tuition on campus. Online programmes at NMIMS CDOE and Amity University Online list ₹1,50,000 and ₹1,99,000 for the full degree. Compare the total programme cost, not the first instalment.
Yes for many students who want management exposure after Class 12. It opens entry roles across industries and supports later MBA study. Fit depends on your interest in business subjects and the college you choose.
A standard BBA degree takes three years and is usually split into six semesters. Some honours or integrated programmes may follow a different structure set by the university.
Yes. Many universities offer online or distance BBA alongside regular campus programmes. Online degrees from UGC-DEB approved universities are valid for jobs and further study, though employers may set their own rules.
Core subjects often include principles of management, accounting, economics, marketing, HR, finance, business law, operations and a final project. Exact papers and electives depend on the university and specialisation you choose.
A BBA degree is an undergraduate qualification in business administration. It signals foundational training in management subjects and supports both first jobs and later postgraduate study such as an MBA.
Yes. BBA is one of the most common undergraduate pathways for students who plan an MBA or similar management postgraduate programme after gaining work experience or immediately after graduation.
Graduates often start in marketing, sales, business development, HR support, finance operations or general management trainee roles. Use current published job notices to check the responsibilities, qualifications and selection process before applying.
BBA course details usually cover full form, eligibility, duration, modes, syllabus themes, fee factors, specialisations, admission steps and career paths. Use college pages for published fees and entrance rules before you apply.
Most students find BBA manageable if they attend classes and keep up with assignments. The harder papers are usually accounting, statistics and financial management, especially if you did not take commerce in Class 12. The workload is steady rather than heavy, with presentations, case studies and a final project.
No. BBA has some maths, mainly business mathematics, statistics, accounting and financial management in the first two years. You need comfort with Class 10 level numbers, not advanced calculus. Most universities admit students from any stream, so you can join without maths in Class 12.
Choose your mode first. Central and many state universities admit through CUET (UG), which the National Testing Agency runs each year; the 2026 test began on 11 May 2026. Private universities may hold their own test or interview, and most online and distance programmes admit directly on your Class 12 marks.
There is no single best college for everyone. Shortlist UGC-recognised universities that offer your specialisation, compare the full fee structure and ask for the latest placement report with the number of students placed. For online or distance study, confirm the programme on the UGC-DEB list for your session before you pay.
It depends on the city, the employer, the role and the internships you did during the degree. Sales and business development roles often add incentives on top of a fixed salary. Ask each college for its latest placement report showing median pay and the share of students placed, and compare like for like.
Usually, yes. At Shaheed Sukhdev College of Business Studies, a University of Delhi college, the 2026-27 tuition fee for BBA (FIA) is ₹180 a year and the full first-year fee is ₹29,295. Seats are filled on CUET (UG) scores, so competition is high. Private universities set their own fees, which are often several times higher.
