Overview
BBA LLB is a five-year integrated degree in business administration and law, leading to enrolment as an advocate. See CLAT eligibility, fees at named universities, subjects year by year and how to compare colleges.
The BBA LLB course (also written BBA LL.B) is a five-year integrated degree that gives you two qualifications in one go: a Bachelor of Business Administration and a Bachelor of Laws. You study management subjects such as organisational behaviour, accounting, marketing and finance in the early years, alongside the core law papers: contracts, torts, constitutional law, criminal law, family law, property, evidence and procedure. After graduating you can enrol as an advocate, which a BBA alone never allows.
BBA LLB makes most sense over BA LLB if you want corporate or commercial law work, where business subjects help you read balance sheets, contracts and deal documents. This page covers eligibility and entrance tests, fees at named universities as of October 2026, BBA LLB subjects year by year, and how to compare colleges that offer BBA LLB in India.
The basic eligibility criteria are simple: Class 12 from a recognised board in any stream. For the National Law Universities, the CLAT 2027 UG eligibility page asks for at least 45% marks in 10+2 (40% for SC, ST and PwD candidates), with no upper age limit, and students sitting Class 12 in March or April 2027 can apply. The Consortium has fixed CLAT 2027 for Sunday, 6 December 2026, with applications open from 3 August to 31 October 2026. CLAT 2027 scores fill seats at the 26 participating NLUs for the 2027-28 academic year, including Maharashtra National Law University Nagpur, which runs a BBA LLB (Hons.).
NLU Delhi is not on the CLAT list and admits through its own test, AILET, for its B.A. LL.B. (Hons.). Private and state universities use their own tests, CLAT scores or Class 12 merit. ICFAI Law School in Hyderabad, for example, takes an admission fee on the day of its personal interview. Check each university's admission notice for the exact route and dates.
The course runs for five years, or ten semesters, full time. Vijayanagara Sri Krishnadevaraya University's 2025 BBA LLB (Hons.) scheme, for example, carries 212 credits across ten semesters and states that Bar Council of India directions must be followed at admission. There is no valid distance or online version. The UGC (Open and Distance Learning Programmes and Online Programmes) Regulations, 2020 list Law among the programmes that cannot be offered through distance or online mode, so any online BBA LLB offer is a red flag. The Bar Council of India also runs the All India Bar Examination, which graduates take before they practise.
A BBA LLB is an expensive degree at most institutions, and the total over five years matters more than the first-year figure. The amounts below come from each university's own fee notice.
| University | Type | Published fee | Source |
|---|---|---|---|
| Maharashtra National Law University, Nagpur (BBA LLB Hons, batch 2026-31) | State NLU, admits through CLAT | ₹3,85,000 in year 1, including ₹60,000 refundable cautions and ₹90,000 hostel and mess; tuition of ₹1,85,000 in year 1, rising 10% a year | Fee structure batch 2026-31, nlunagpur.ac.in |
| ICFAI Law School, Hyderabad (BBA-LLB Hons, 2026 intake) | Deemed university | ₹1,40,000 a semester; ₹14,20,000 over ten semesters including the ₹20,000 admission fee; hostel and transport extra | Fee schedule page, ifheindia.org |
| Sushant University School of Law, Gurugram (BBA-LLB Hons, 2026-31) | Private university | ₹8,69,000 over five years, with ₹1,93,300 in year 1; exam fee of ₹4,000 a semester extra | School of Law fees 2026, sushantuniversity.edu.in |
Government law colleges and state university departments can charge much less, so check whether they run BBA LLB or only BA LLB and the three-year LLB. Confirm the current fee with the university before you pay anything.
The first two years mix management with basic legal concepts: legal methods, contracts, torts, constitutional law and criminal law sit beside organisational behaviour, financial management, marketing, accounting, statistics and HR. Years three and four cover the core law papers such as jurisprudence, family law, company law, property, banking, civil procedure, evidence, administrative law, labour law and taxation. The final year is about international law, environmental law, intellectual property and the clinical papers. Vijayanagara Sri Krishnadevaraya University's 2025 scheme shows the shape clearly.
| Year | Main subjects |
|---|---|
| Year 1 | General Principles of Contract; Legal Methods; Managing Organisations; Organisational Behaviour; Law of Torts, MV Act and Consumer Protection Act; Special Contracts; Financial Management; Business Ethics and Corporate Governance; English and Kannada |
| Year 2 | Constitutional Law I and II; Law of Crimes I; Interpretation of Statutes; Management Accounting; Marketing Management; Entrepreneurial Development; Business Communication; Business Statistics; Human Resources Management |
| Year 3 | Jurisprudence; Family Law I and II; Company Law I and II; Law of Banking; Law of Property; Production and Operations Management; honours papers such as Competition Law |
| Year 4 | Civil Procedure Code and Limitation Act; Law of Crimes II; Law of Evidence; Labour Laws I; Administrative Law; Law of Taxation; electives and honours papers |
| Year 5 | Labour Laws II; Public International Law; Land Laws; Environmental Law; Intellectual Property; clinical courses in Drafting, Pleading and Conveyancing, Professional Ethics, ADR, and Moot Court and Internship |
Paper names and order differ between universities, so read your own university's syllabus. BBA LLB programmes also build in moot courts and internships, and these shape your first job more than any one paper.
The most common first roles are associate at a law firm, legal or compliance executive in a company, and litigation work under a senior advocate. With experience, many become a corporate lawyer at a firm or a legal advisor inside a company. The management papers point naturally towards corporate, banking, competition, taxation law and intellectual property practice. Others take the judicial services exams, join legal process and contract management teams, or add the Company Secretary qualification for a governance career; our guide to the Company Secretary course explains that route.
Pay varies enormously between a top law firm, a mid-size company and independent litigation, and no college can promise you a package. Ask each university for its latest placement record and look at where the middle of the batch went, not only the top offers.
The BBA LLB course suits you if you like reading closely, arguing a point, and the idea of law applied to business. It asks for five years of steady reading, moots and internships, often during vacations.
Look elsewhere if you are drawn to constitutional, criminal or human rights work and have little interest in business papers; a BA LLB fits that better. If you are a commerce student who prefers accounting and tax depth, compare the B.Com LLB. If you would rather finish a first degree before deciding on law, a BBA followed by the three-year LLB keeps that option open, at the cost of one extra year.
First, confirm that the university and the specific programme are approved by the Bar Council of India, because your enrolment as an advocate depends on it. Then compare BBA LLB colleges on the things that drive outcomes: faculty, moot court and legal aid activity, internship support, library and database access, and published placement data. Work out the five-year cost, including hostel and any yearly tuition rise, such as the 10% a year MNLU Nagpur applies. Prepare for CLAT if an NLU seat is your aim, and keep one or two university tests as back-ups. A counsellor can help you balance rank, fees and location when you shortlist.

You need Class 12 from a recognised board in any stream. For National Law Universities, CLAT 2027 asks for at least 45% in 10+2, or 40% for SC, ST and PwD candidates, with no upper age limit, and Class 12 candidates sitting the exam in March or April 2027 can apply. It varies by NLU. Maharashtra National Law University Nagpur's fee structure for the 2026-31 BBA LLB (Hons.) batch shows ₹3,85,000 in year 1, including ₹60,000 of refundable cautions and ₹90,000 for hostel and mess, with tuition of ₹1,85,000 rising 10% each year. Both lead to the same right to enrol as an advocate. BBA LLB adds management papers such as accounting, marketing, finance and HR, so it suits corporate and commercial law. BA LLB adds humanities papers such as political science, history and sociology, so it suits constitutional, criminal and policy work. Pick the one that matches the law you want to practise.
