One of the best institutions that conducts research and education on population, health, and development is the International Institute of Population Sciences (IIPS), which is based in Mumbai. It was established in 1956 with the help of the Sir Dorabji Tata Trust, the Government
IPS offers specialised programs of Master of Arts/Science in Population Studies, M.Sc. in Biostatistics and Demography, Survey Research and Data Analytics, PhD, post-doctoral, and part-time doctoral. The institute boasts of seven academic departments and three special centers, which dwell upon the key social issues, including gender, ageing, and distance education. The UGC and AIU accredit IPP, and it has study environments, including a regular study environment, an online study environment, and a distance learning environment; it can cater to a large number of students in the region and across the globe.
It has been attributed to the institute for conducting country-level surveys such as the National Family Health Survey (NFHS), the Global Adult Tobacco Survey (GATS), and the Longitudinal Ageing Study in India (LASI). It also provides professional consultancy services to the government, non-governmental organisations, and any other international organisations. IPS is fast in establishing policies of health, demography, and social development in India as well as other regions of the world, having a highly qualified faculty and interdisciplinary research.
