IIT Bombay study routes and award types

IIT Online Degree: IIT Bombay Options

An IIT online degree search can lead to very different awards. IIT Bombay offers a Master in Development Practice, or MDP, taught mainly online with some in-person modules. Its continuing education routes also include e-Postgraduate Diplomas and certificates. Check the exact award and attendance rules before choosing a programme.

IIT Bombay and IIT Madras are separate institutions. The BS in Data Science and Applications advertised by IIT Madras belongs to IIT Madras. It should not be described as an IIT Bombay degree. Compare the awarding institution, entry requirements and assessment arrangements when reviewing IIT online degree programs.

Master in Development Practice

The MDP is a one-year, full-time master's programme for development practitioners. It requires at least 24 months of field-based development-sector experience. Learning includes a faculty-supervised independent project. Sponsored and self-sponsored applicants can apply, but full-time study and in-person modules need careful planning around work commitments.

Academic entry requirements are specific. Read the current brochure rather than assuming that any bachelor's degree qualifies. Prepare evidence of field experience and check employer permission requirements. A course aimed at experienced practitioners may be unsuitable for a school leaver or someone seeking their first technical qualification.

Diplomas, certificates and lecture access

Educational Outreach lists ePGD routes including Artificial Intelligence and Data Science, E-Mobility and Interaction Design. The diploma requires 36 credits. It is a diploma award, so applicants should check its purpose against their study or employment requirements rather than treating it as an M.Tech.

CDEEP makes IIT Bombay teaching available through several participation modes. Its courses do not award an IIT degree. Access to recordings, interaction or grading depends on the selected mode. Viewing lectures alone should not be mistaken for admission to a degree programme.

IIT Bombay courses and fees

The MDP brochure for 2026-27 lists ₹3L for the entire programme, paid at the start of two semesters. This is an MDP fee, not an institute-wide average. Request the applicable invoice and plan separately for any travel required by in-person teaching.

Before paying, record the exact programme, cohort, payment schedule and withdrawal terms. Use IIT Bombay's official academic or Educational Outreach pages to identify the correct application channel. Confirm any advertised refund or financing arrangement in writing before relying on it.

Admissions, assessments and career expectations

An online application or interview does not establish that a programme is fully online. IIT Bombay's M.Tech. admissions page lists full-time and part-time routes. Check the department's requirements, admission category and assessment arrangements rather than assuming an online engineering degree is available.

The MDP brochure excludes participants from IIT Bombay's regular placement programme. Educational Outreach courses also do not provide placement support. These routes should be assessed for learning and professional development without relying on salary or job promises.

Read the MDP admissions information, Educational Outreach catalogue and CDEEP guidance before shortlisting. Check the latest programme notice for application dates, eligibility and physical attendance. Past admission dates do not establish that the next cohort is open.

Frequently Asked Questions

Common questions about IIT Bombay: admissions, fees and outcomes.

IIT Bombay's Master in Development Practice is a full-time master's programme delivered mainly online with some in-person modules. Educational Outreach also offers diplomas and certificates. Check the exact award: the BS in Data Science and Applications from IIT Madras belongs to a different institution.

The 2026-27 brochure requires a minimum four-year bachelor's degree in engineering, technology, planning or architecture, or a five-year master's in physical sciences. Applicants also need 24 months of documented field-based development-sector experience. Check the current brochure and employer permission requirements before applying.

The 2026-27 MDP brochure lists ₹3L for the entire programme, payable in two instalments at the beginning of its two semesters. This figure applies to MDP only. Obtain the programme invoice and check travel costs and withdrawal terms before committing.

Attendance depends on the programme. MDP is mainly online but includes in-person modules. ePGD arrangements may include campus immersions and physical examinations. Confirm the timetable and assessment locations in the specific programme brochure before assuming that every requirement can be completed from home.

Educational Outreach offers courses for professional development and e-Postgraduate Diplomas. Completing the required 36 credits leads to an ePGD diploma. Other courses may issue participation or completion certificates. Check the award title and your employer's requirements; a short certificate does not establish admission to a master's degree.

CDEEP explicitly states that its courses do not award an IIT degree. Depending on the participation mode, learners may receive a certificate or registration letter. Review the mode's access, interaction and grading rules before registering, especially if formal assessment matters to your study plans.

Start with IIT Bombay's official M.Tech. admissions page and the relevant department brochure. The admissions page lists full-time and part-time routes. Online applications and video interviews do not prove fully online delivery. Verify the admission category, eligibility, required attendance and applicable fee notice before choosing a route.

Check the official notice for your exact programme and session. The MDP page reviewed here concerns 2026-27 and shows that selections have been declared. Its past application deadline should not be treated as a current opening. New cohorts require a fresh admission notice.

MDP participants are excluded from IIT Bombay's regular placement programme under the 2026-27 brochure. Educational Outreach courses do not provide placement support. ePGD completion can provide access to the lateral hiring group, but this does not establish a job offer or an assured salary.

Use the official programme page to identify the award and payment channel. Educational Outreach has a certificate verification facility, while each programme's admission documents explain its requirements. Keep the invoice and written withdrawal terms. Request clarification about any refund arrangement before making payment.
