Indian Statistical Institute snapshot
The Indian Statistical Institute (ISI), founded by late Professor P. C. Mahalanobis in 1931. Since 1995. ISI has consistently proven to be an institution of excellence and has earned an academic reputation world-wide both in postgraduate education and research work. ISI functions under the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation (MOSPI) of the Government of India and hence is involved in high-impact projects involving large data and also trains the key officers of the ministry. Some notable projects are: • Browser-based data capture technology for NSSO survey • Census of India • National Coal Index (Used by the Govt. of India in its auction process of coal mines) • Crypto Security Projects • Developing methods to estimate the quantum of spurious drugs in circulation • Estimation of quantum of fake Indian currency in circulation– NIA, MHA, Govt of India
