Overview
B Com Computer Application, also called B.Com CA or B.Com Computers, is a three-year commerce degree with computing papers in IT, programming, databases and web technologies. See eligibility, subjects, fees and careers.
B Com Computer Application, often shortened to B.Com CA or, in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh, B.Com Computers, is a three-year commerce degree that keeps the full accounting, tax and business law core of a B.Com and adds computing papers in place of some commerce electives. You study financial accounting, corporate accounting and statistics alongside information technology, programming, databases and web technologies, with lab hours for the computing papers.
It is still a commerce degree. You graduate as a B.Com holder, so CA, CMA, CS, M.Com and MBA routes stay open, and you also bring practical software skills to accounts and operations roles. This page covers eligibility, study modes, fees at named colleges as of October 2026, the subjects, and how to decide between B.Com CA, a general B.Com and a BCA.
You need a pass in Class 12, and rules beyond that are set by each university. Kongu Arts and Science College, an autonomous college under Bharathiar University, asks for a pass in +2 (academic or vocational stream) or an exam the university accepts as equivalent. Some universities ask for a commerce, mathematics or computer subject at +2, so read the admission notice of each college before you apply. Most colleges admit on Class 12 marks. In Telangana, degree admissions run through the state's DOST portal, and central universities that offer commerce use CUET-UG.
Students from science or arts streams can usually apply where the university accepts any stream, but expect to work harder on accounts in the first semester if you have not studied it before.
The standard course runs for three years, or six semesters. Kakatiya University's 2025-26 structure, for example, carries 142 credits over six semesters. The UGC four-year undergraduate framework allows a fourth honours year, which needs 160 credits in total, but most B.Com CA programmes are still three-year degrees.
A distance route exists, but it is narrow. On the UGC-DEB list of recognised ODL and online programmes, checked in October 2026, the 2026-27 session lists B.Com Computer Applications or B.Com Computers in distance mode at Alagappa University, Andhra University, Kakatiya University, MIT Art Design and Technology University and Dr. B. R. Ambedkar Open University. No university is listed for it in online mode. Some universities run an online general B.Com instead, so check the exact programme title and its DEB entry before you pay, and see our distance B.Com page for how distance study works.
Fees for this course at regular colleges stay close to plain B.Com fees, and the gap can go either way: of the two colleges below that list both, one charges more for CA and one charges less. The figures come from each college's own 2026-27 fee sheet.
| College | Programme and type | Published fee (2026-27) | Source |
|---|---|---|---|
| Sir Syed Institute for Technical Studies, Taliparamba (Kannur University) | B.Com with CA, self-financing | Tuition of ₹12,600 a semester; ₹26,400 payable at admission (B.Com Co-operation at the same college: ₹10,080 tuition, ₹22,880 at admission) | UG fee structure 2026-27, sirsyedinstitute.ac.in |
| Justice Basheer Ahmed Sayeed College for Women, Chennai | B.Com (Computer Application), Shift II | ₹28,750 listed as the first-year fee (B.Com General in the same shift: ₹31,460) | Fee chart 2026-27, jbascollege.edu.in |
| Subbalakshmi Lakshmipathy College of Science, Madurai | B.Com (Computer Applications and FinTech) | ₹25,700 for the odd semester and ₹21,700 for the even semester | Fee details 2026-27, slcs.edu.in |
Hostel, exam and university charges can sit outside these figures. Confirm the current fee with the college before you pay anything, and compare the full three-year cost rather than the first semester alone.
The commerce side covers the same ground as a general B.Com: financial and corporate accounting, business law, statistics, cost and management accounting, and tax. The computer side builds from IT basics to programming, databases and web work. Kakatiya University's syllabus for the course for students admitted from 2025-26 is a clear example.
| Semester | Core papers (plus English and a second language in semesters 1 to 4) |
|---|---|
| 1 | Financial Accounting I; Business Organization and Management; Fundamentals of Information Technology |
| 2 | Financial Accounting II; Business Laws; Programming with C and C++ |
| 3 | Advanced Accounting; Business Statistics I; Relational Database Management System |
| 4 | Corporate Accounting; Business Statistics II; Web Technologies |
| 5 | Choices such as Cost Accounting, Business Economics or Management Information Systems, and Auditing, Business Ethics or Mobile Applications, plus skill courses |
| 6 | Choices such as Management Accounting, E-commerce or Multimedia Systems, and GST or Data Analytics, plus Computerized Accounting or E-filing of Tax Returns and a project or internship |
The computer papers carry practical hours, so lab work counts towards your marks. Other universities use different paper names and order, so read your own university's syllabus. For the commerce papers in more depth, see our guide to B.Com subjects.
Most graduates start in accounts and finance teams, where software skills help from day one: accounts executive, accounts payable or receivable, billing, payroll and MIS reporting roles. Others move into e-commerce operations, data entry and reporting, or software and ERP support at firms that sell accounting tools. With extra training in spreadsheets, SQL and reporting tools, some move into junior data or business analyst roles. Professional courses such as CA, CMA and CS remain open, as do M.Com and MBA programmes. Our guide on what to do after B.Com compares those routes.
Starting pay depends on the employer, city and role, and no college can promise a salary. Ask each college for its latest placement report and look at the median offer rather than the highest one.
The course suits you if you like accounts but also enjoy working on a computer, and want a commerce degree that makes you useful with business software from the start. It also suits working adults in accounts or office roles who want a recognised degree, through one of the distance options listed above.
Look elsewhere if you mainly want to write software or build apps. A BCA spends far more time on programming, data structures and software development, while B.Com CA keeps most of its weight on commerce. If you want pure accounting depth for CA, a general B.Com or B.Com Honours may suit you better.
Start with the syllabus: check how many computing papers there are, which languages and tools are taught, and how many lab hours you get each week. Then look at the lab itself, the ratio of students to computers, and whether accounting software and spreadsheets are part of the practicals. Compare the full fee for three years, including lab and exam charges. For distance study, confirm the university's UGC-DEB entry for this exact programme for your admission session. Finally, ask about internships with CA firms or company accounts teams, since that experience carries real weight when you apply for a first job. A counsellor can help you shortlist B.Com CA colleges that fit your marks and budget.

FAQs
Quick answers to common questions.
It is a Bachelor of Commerce programme that combines commerce subjects with computer tools used in business. Accounting, finance and management sit alongside computing papers and practical work. Universities use slightly different course titles and curricula, so compare the syllabus of the exact programme offered.
Applicants generally need to pass Class 12 from a recognised board. Minimum marks, accepted streams and subject requirements vary by university. Some institutions use qualifying marks, while others have an entrance test or another selection process. Read the current prospectus before deciding whether you meet the conditions.
Graduates can explore accounts support, business operations, e-commerce operations and software support vacancies. The right options depend on practical skills and the employer's requirements. Business analyst and database administration roles may need further training, relevant projects or experience, so the degree alone does not guarantee entry into these jobs.
The choice depends on your interests and the actual curriculum. B.Com CA adds computing and practical business software topics to commerce studies. Compare the accounting depth, electives and laboratory work in both programmes. Choose the course that fits your intended work or further-study plans.
M.Com and management programmes are common options, subject to each institution's admission rules. Students interested in MCA should check mathematics and other eligibility conditions early. Further study in computing or analytics may require specific subjects or additional preparation. Check the requirements of your intended postgraduate programme before applying.
Common subject groups include accounting, business economics, management, taxation, business law and computer applications. Computing papers may cover office tools, programming, databases, e-commerce and management information systems. The subject names and semester order vary by university. Use the current syllabus to check the practical work and electives included.
A three-year programme divided into six semesters is common. Some universities offer different undergraduate structures or awards, so confirm the exact duration in the prospectus. Check the examination pattern, practical requirements and completion rules as well, particularly when comparing regular, distance or online study options.
Practical ability with spreadsheets and business software, relevant projects and internships may help graduates demonstrate their readiness for work. Compare job responsibilities as well as advertised pay. A degree does not guarantee a particular salary or placement.
By distance, yes, at a few universities. The UGC-DEB list for the 2026-27 session shows it in distance mode, under that title or as B.Com Computers, at Alagappa University, Andhra University, Kakatiya University, MIT Art Design and Technology University and Dr. B. R. Ambedkar Open University. No university is listed for it in online mode, as of October 2026. Check the exact programme's DEB entry for your session before you pay.
Request the full fee schedule from each institution and compare tuition, examination charges and any practical or laboratory costs. Check payment deadlines, instalment terms and refund rules. Read the current prospectus and written fee schedule for your intended programme and admission session.
At Kakatiya University, under its structure for students admitted from 2025-26, semester 1 has Financial Accounting I, Business Organization and Management, and Fundamentals of Information Technology, and semester 2 has Financial Accounting II, Business Laws, and Programming with C and C++, alongside English and a second language. Other universities use different paper names.
It depends on the work you want. B.Com CA is a commerce degree with computing papers, so it suits accounts, finance and business operations roles and keeps CA, CMA, CS and MBA routes open. A BCA spends most of its time on programming and software development, so it suits you better if you want to build software.
They are versions of the same idea under different names. Andhra University and Kakatiya University list B.Com (Computers) in the UGC-DEB distance list, while Alagappa University lists B.Com (Computer Application). Kakatiya's own syllabus uses the Computer Applications title. The papers differ by university, so compare the syllabus rather than the title.
At regular colleges it is often close to a plain B.Com fee. For 2026-27, Sir Syed Institute for Technical Studies in Kerala lists ₹12,600 tuition a semester for B.Com with CA, Justice Basheer Ahmed Sayeed College for Women in Chennai lists ₹28,750 as the first-year fee for its Shift II course, and SLCS Madurai lists ₹25,700 and ₹21,700 for the two semesters.
