IIT Patna is among the newly formed members of the IIT family and it was founded on 6 August 2008, through the Act of the Indian Parliament. IIT Patna is a public research institute that is located in Patna, Bihar. IITs are recognised by the Government of India as Institutions of National Importance. IIT Patna is among the second-generation IITs. IIT Patna provides advanced and quality education along with adequate skills. The students work on innovative ideas and are encouraged to work in the direction of research and innovative creations. The campus of IIT Patna is spread over 501 acres of land at Bihta which is just 30 km away from the west of Patna. The campus is very well equipped with all the facilities like modern classrooms and lecture halls, high-tech laboratories, libraries that are fully stocked with various resources and hostels that are supported with all the world-class facilities. The students can also join student clubs and groups to work on extracurricular activities along with their studies. The Institute is ranked by various national and international organisations and it is known to be a prestigious asset of India. IIT has been ranked in NIRF 2024. As per the National Institutional Ranking Framework 2024, IIT Patna has been ranked 73rd position in the overall category, and in the category of top engineering institutes, IIT Patna is ranked 34th. As per QS Asia University rankings, IIT Patna is ranked in the 351-400th, and as per QS World University Rankings 2023, it is ranked at 78th position. IIT Patna courses are offered in all modes, Full-time time, online mode and part-time mode. There are more than 45 courses that are offered to the students at IIT Patna at undergraduate, postgraduate and doctorate levels like B.T.ech, M.T.ech, M.Sc., PhD programs.
