Yashwantrao Chavan Maharashtra Open University known as YCMOU, short, was established on 1st July 1989 through the Maharashtra State Legislature Act. The University is beautifully located in an area of 147 acres near Gangapur Dam close to Nasik City. The campus is close to nature surrounded by lush green areas. The University is also known by the name ‘Dnyangangotri’, which means river of knowledge. This is approved by the University Grants Commission Act. Known to be the 5th Open University of India, the university offers affordable courses to students. There are many higher education to people of India at an affordable cost by eliminating all the hindrances that people face, like age, entry requirements, place, gender, pace of study, or anything else. This is a self-financed University that is working under the Government of India, (Ministry of Higher & Technical Education). This institution is a member of many prestigious organizations like the Association of Commonwealth Universities (ACU), the Association of Indian Universities (AIU), the Asian Association of Open Universities (AAOU), and the International Council for Distance Education (ICDE).
