The university was established in 1987 and it was renamed to its current and original name in 2002. The Vardhman Mahaveer Open University was formed after combining two prominent institutions together Institute of Correspondence Studies and the Continuing Education Jaipur and (The College of Correspondence Studies) Udaipur with the main objective of strengthening and achieving tremendous coordination in he distance education sector.
