The University of North Bengal is a public and research university situated at the foothills of the Himalayas, in the North Bengal region of the state. The establishment of the university was done by the Act of the Legislature of West Bengal in 1962. The university is known for its initiatives of providing education to socially and economically backwards students. One of the primary aims of the university is to offer higher education and research of superior standards. The university is UGC-approved and also accredited by NAAC with a B++ grade. It also scored an NIRF 51-100 rank band among state public universities. The University of North Bengal has many academic departments, from arts and commerce to science and technology. Many courses are offered in these departments at the graduate, postgraduate levels, besides this, MPhil, diploma, and doctoral programs. There is also a Centre for Distance and Online Education, which provides degrees that are flexible and conducted online. This consists of seven postgraduate courses in English, Bengali, Nepali, Philosophy, Political Science, History, and Mathematics, and a UG program in B.Com. Moreover, this centre is UGC-Distance Education Bureau-approved and offers seven courses at undergraduate and postgraduate levels. The classes for these online-mode programs are facilitated online using ICT tools and web-based services, providing an alternative mode of education. Through this approach, many students who are otherwise denied education and obtain it flexibly. Moreover, the online courses are provided at a low cost, keeping in mind the students, and these degrees are advanced and job-oriented, which gives equivalent value to regular programs. The students of the University of North Bengal also receive career support services. This means there are career advisors on board to assist students in gaining clarity, exploring career paths, and making a career plan, etc. Beyond that, skill development workshops on resume building, interview preparation are provided. Students also receive placement assistance from the university placement cell to find jobs in start-ups, multinational corporations, government organizations, and NGOs. So, students are supported from education to placement, which ensures employment opportunities and development for more students.
