The National Institute of Technology Tiruchirappalli (NIT Trichy) is a deemed university with the approval of the University Grants Commission. The institution was founded in the year of 1964 by the joint venture of the Government of India and the Government of Tamil Nadu. The institute was formerly named the Regional Engineering College, which was renamed by the All India Council for Technical Education and the Government of India in the year 2003, as the National Institute of Technology. The institute offers a wide range of on-campus programs, including B.Tech, M.Tech, M.S., and PhD programs. The NIT Trichy also introduced an online program to make education more accessible in engineering, sciences, humanities, and management. The online classes are conducted by eminent professors from top universities like IITs and IISCs. The National Institute of Technology Tiruchirappalli (NIT Trichy) is accredited by the National Accreditation Board. The institute conducts its online courses through the SWAYAM platform in collaboration with NPTEL. It also provides a strong learner support center for the students. The NIT Trichy also offers placement facilities for the students.
