The Mother Teresa Women’s University is the sole Women’s University under the State Government of Tamil Nadu. The university is located at Attuvampatti, Kodaikanal, in Tamil Nadu, which is known by the name “Princess of Hill Stations” and is a popular tourist spot. The university was established in 1984 under Act 15 of Tamil Nadu. Moreover, the foundation stone of the university was laid by no other than Mother Teresa, after whom the MTWU is named. One of the primary aims of the university is to empower women’s higher education and create an inclusive society where both men and women have equal status. As a women’s university, the focus is on providing a wide range of programs for women students. These include bachelor’s, Master’s, and doctoral programs, as well as certifications and diplomas for professional development. The university also has a Center for Distance and Online Education through which flexible online and blended mode learning is facilitated. Some of the programs provided are M.A., M.Com., M.Ed., M.B.A., M.Sc. at the postgraduate level. Online and distance programs in Computer Science, English, and Biotechnology, as well as a PhD in Management and Visual Communication, MPhil, and certificate courses. Moreover, the university has established Research and Extension centres in Chennai, Madurai, and Coimbatore, followed by the Center for Women’s Studies in Pallapatti that focuses on women entrepreneurship. Also, MTWU administers 12 women’s colleges located in Dindigul and Theni districts as an affiliating University. It has a remarkable research record through MHRD, TNSCST, TANSCHE, UGC, DST, and ICSSR-funded Departments with modern facilities. The online courses of the university are conducted through an online learning platform where students can find lectures, submit assignments, pay fees, receive performance feedback, and access other course-related information. Placement support is also available to students in the form of skill training, workshops, and conferences, along with placement drives, internships, and jobs.
