Manonmaniam Sundaranar University (MSU) is a prominent institution of higher learning located in the rural backdrop of southern Tamil Nadu. Established on 7th September 1990 by the Government of Tamil Nadu, the university was designed to cater to the educational needs of the southernmost districts of Tamil Nadu: Tirunelveli, Tenkasi, Thoothukudi, and Kanyakumari. The university is named after the renowned Tamil poet-scholar, Professor P. Sundaram Pillai, the author of the famous Tamil drama Manonmaniam. With a sprawling 550-acre campus, MSU offers a wide array of undergraduate, postgraduate, and research programs through its 104 affiliated colleges and 6 university-run institutions. The university serves approximately 130,885 regular students and 11,236 students in distance education mode. Many of these affiliated colleges have a rich history, with several being over 100 years old. MSU’s mission is rooted in providing accessible, quality education to underserved and economically weaker sections, particularly in rural areas. The university’s curriculum is regularly updated to meet the demands of contemporary research and industry needs, and its faculty is dedicated to delivering high-quality education. In line with its motto, “Reaching the Unreached,” MSU focuses on creating an inclusive academic environment that values diversity, intellectual curiosity, and academic freedom.
