The B.Tech lateral entry program is a scheme that enables diploma holders or B.Tech graduates to gain direct entry into the second year (third semester) of the B.Tech degree program.
The eligibility criteria for the B.Tech lateral entry program vary from institution to institution. Generally, candidates must have completed a diploma in engineering or technology with at least 50% to 60% marks or a B.Sc. degree with mathematics as one of the subjects with at least 50% marks.
It takes around 3 to 3.5 years to complete the B.Tech after the diploma program. As the students directly enter into the second year of the course, they get a grace period of 1 year in their course duration.
