Annamalai University distance education in 2026
Annamalai University distance education is run by the Centre for Distance and Online Education (CDOE) at Annamalainagar, near Chidambaram in Tamil Nadu. As of October 2026, the UGC Distance Education Bureau (DEB) recognises 25 of its programmes in open and distance learning (ODL) mode, up to the January 2028 session. The CDOE gave 13 October 2026 as the last date for academic year 2026-27 admission.
That recognised list matters more than any course count you see online. UGC rules let a university admit ODL students only to programmes DEB has recognised for that session. Older brochures and websites list hundreds of courses, so check the list below before you apply.

About the university and the CDOE
Annamalai University was established in 1929 under the Annamalai University Act, 1928. That Act has since been replaced by the Annamalai University Act, 2013. It is a unitary, residential state university in Cuddalore district, with 49 departments of study. The Governor of Tamil Nadu is its Chancellor.
Distance education began here in 1979 as the Centre for Correspondence and Continuing Education. It was later renamed the Directorate of Distance Education (DDE), and today it is the CDOE. The university says it was the first in India to offer postgraduate degrees in Applied Psychology, Physics, Chemistry, Zoology, Botany and Computer Science by distance.
How study works
You study on your own and attend personal contact programme (PCP) classes. The CDOE posts PCP schedules, assignment questions, lecture videos and DEB ID help on audde.in. Learner Support Centres handle admissions and queries. During admission, the CDOE office also works on Saturdays.
Admission and fees
Admission runs twice a year, in an academic year session and a January session. You can apply online through audde.in or at a Learner Support Centre. Create your DEB ID first, because UGC requires it for ODL admission.
Tuition is paid in two instalments each year. For the academic year session, the last dates are 31 August and 31 January. For the January session, they are 31 January and 31 July. A late fine of ₹200 applies per instalment. The CDOE publishes its 2026-27 fee structure on audde.in, so check the figure for your programme there before paying.
Is the degree valid for jobs?
Under UGC rules, a degree from a DEB-recognised ODL programme is treated on par with a regular degree. That holds only for the programmes and sessions on the list above. Keep a copy of the DEB list with your admission papers.
