The University was established in the year 1985 in the state of Tamil Nadu, which is extended into an area of 440 acres in the lush green campus of Karaikudi, Tamil Nadu. The foundation of the University was laid by one of the great educationalists & philanthropists Dr Alagappa.

This Institute has around 2 Constituent Colleges that consist of 9 educational centres & 44 Departments that are located in the Sivaganga & Ramanathapuram districts of the State. The University started providing online courses to students who can not travel to the study centres and are working professionals.
